Underwater-explosion pool
Measurement example
Underwater explosion test video (←enlarge video here)
sample: 10g Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) powder
Specifications
- Large water pool of 8m diameter and 5m depth
- Accurate measurement of energy released by explosive material detonated unter water
- Around 50g of explosive material is used in a standard test
Explanation
In an underwater explosion test, the energy released during an explosion can be accurately measured.
The water in this pool is kept clear, in order to allow explosions and resulting destruction of submerged structures to be observed safely.
On the right, a gas ball resulting from detonation of 10g of explosive is shown. Because high pressure gas is released very quickly, a clean sphere of gas is developed.
